The REAL News Creates Custom Video Player

For those who haven't heard about it, TheREALNews is a new, independent, non-profit, independent world news network based in Toronto. It's the kind of project that reminds us about the importance on Net Neutrality, since innovative projects like this would never get off the ground without an open, non-discriminatory Internet.

TheREALNews is innovative in a number of ways, but most recently - they launched a customizable video player that bloggers can embed in their website by simply cutting and pasting a code. You can see the video player in action below, and create your own here: http://therealnews.com/web/index.php?thisdataswitch=0&thisid=621&thisvie...

This makes me wonder why the much better funded CBC is still using Windows Media Player on their site. Why not provide embed codes and other tools so citizens can distribute their beloved CBC programs on their blogs and websites? Seems like a public broadcaster like the CBC is in a prime position to let Canadian citizens get and use the content they pay for in any space or form they like. They should also provide their videos through Miro player, which TheREALnews has been doing for months.

We're facing a new paradigm and it's time for the CBC to fully embrace it. Providing podcasts is not enough. A good place for them to look would be TheREALNews.
